Welcome to the AGS website!


The Artist Guild of Shrewsbury creates a common ground to enrich and enlighten artists and the community in the visual arts. We are an organization dedicated to building connections between the arts community of Shrewsbury and the public. We seek establish a tradition of special events and public displays of art.

Our mission is to encourage artistic awareness and enjoyment of fine arts and to encourage growth both on an individual and community level. We are dedicated to accomplishing this goal through exhibits, lectures, demonstrations, instruction, professional workshops, outdoor sketching, plein air painting, museum trips, and other activities. Our member's artistic interests and talents encompass traditional and contemporary visual arts.

Tatnuck Bookseller to Host Artist Guild Shrewsbury

The Artist Guild of Shrewsbury had a wonderful Opening Reception at the Tatnuck Bookseller on Sunday, March 13.  If you have not seen the show, stop in and take a look.Linda Sinacola, a plein-air painter and member of the Rockport Art and North Shore Art Association and owner ofThe Brick Block Gallery in the center of Sutton, judged the work on Saturday afternoon. Debbie Schradieck was awarded first place for her watercolor "East Gloucester Morning".  Joseph Rice was awarded second place for his acrilic painting "Savana Balcony".  Aili Paal Singer was awarded third place for her mixed media painting "The Flower Seller". Thank you to all the members who helped hang the show; to all those who submitted their work; and to everyone who attended the opening reception. ~Nancy Allen, AGS Chairperson

All Art sold will be subject to a 20% commission paid to Tatnuck Bookseller at the time of the sale. AGS will not collect a commission,only the registration fee.

Monthly Events and Opportunities


January 10, 2011: The January meeting will be held on the second Monday of the month. In the past the closeness to the holidaze has resulted in low attendance in January. Bob Aiello will present a mixed media demonstration.

February 7, 2011: Plein Air Master Robert Duffy will give a painting demonstration. View demonstration by Robert Duffy here.

March 7, 2011: A photography demonstration on how to photograph your art work and offer it for sale on the web and how to take good photographs that you will paint from at a later date will be the topic.

March 13, 2011, Sunday: The Artist Guild of Shrewsbury will hold its annual juried art show in the gallery at the Tatnuck Bookseller in Westboro, 18 Lyman Street. The exhibit will include members' and non-members' paintings and photographs. The opening reception will be held in the gallery from 2:00 to 4:00 P.M. CLOSED

March 19, 2011: Pauline Bergassi will be teaching a class "The Art of Pressing Flowers" at the Tower Hill Botanic Gardens in Boylston,MA from 10am to 12pm. A garden journal craft using pressed flowers will follow the presentation. Visit online at: www.towerhillbg.org for more information and/or to register.

April 7, 2011: Mark Waikus will return for a watercolor demonstration.

May 7, 2011: The Annual Meeting and Election of Officers. Members will bring appetizers and desserts to be enjoyed by the group.


Holiday Card Contest

Deadline; July 1st. This contest, sponsored by the Secretary of the commonwealth of MA office, is open to all citizens age 62 and over. The theme of the 2011 contest is December Holiday At The State House. All media of art is acceptable. the size requirements are a minimum of 5x7 and a maximum of 18x24. Entries must be mailed or delivered to the attention of Dolores McCray, Commonwealth Museum at Columbia Point, 220 Morrissey Boulevard, Boston, MA 02125. An authorization form must accompany each entry. Because it is a holiday card, winter scenes are suggested. Any other questions should be directed to William Galvin, Secretary of the Commonwealth in Massachusetts.

Volunteer Opportunities:

Creating the Newsletter for AGS. This volunteer position entales putting together approximately 5-6 issues per year. Pauline has the newsletter formatted in Word so all you have to do is insert the information. Please contact Pauline Bergassi for more information.
